PRIVACY POLICY
PRIVACY POLICY FRAMEWORK
This privacy policy governs your use of the Intern Health Study software application (“Application”) on a
mobile device that was created by The University of Michigan. The Application includes features to
obtain informed consent from study participants, tasks such as surveys, and the collection of passive data
collected by your device such as location.
What information does the Application obtain and how is it used?
User Provided Information – The Application obtains the information you provide when you download
the Application. When you use the Application, you generally provide information you enter into our
surveys, such as your daily mood.
Automatically Collected Information - In addition, the Application may collect certain information
automatically, such as location data and anonymous information about the type of mobile device you use,
your mobile operating system, and information about the way you use the Application.
Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?
Yes. We will share your information with third parties only in the ways that are described in this privacy
statement and as consented by you in the study consent document. Providing your consent electronically
gives the researchers your permission to obtain, use, and share information about you for this study, and
is required in order for you to take part in the study.
The results of this study could be published in an article, but would not include any information that
would let others know who you are.
To help us protect your privacy, we have obtained a Certificate of Confidentiality from the National
Institutes of Health. With this Certificate, the researchers cannot be forced to disclose information that
may identify you, even by a court subpoena, in any federal, state, or local civil, criminal, administrative,
legislative, or other proceedings. The researchers will use the Certificate to resist any demands for
information that would identify you, except as explained below.
The Certificate cannot be used to resist a demand for information from personnel of the United States
Government that is used for auditing or evaluation of Federally funded projects or for information that
must be disclosed in order to meet the requirements of the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Certificate does not prevent the investigators, or their institutions, from making disclosures, including
to authorities to prevent harm to you or others, or for public health reasons.
You should understand that a Certificate of Confidentiality does not prevent you or a member of your
family from voluntarily releasing information about yourself or your involvement in this research. If an
insurer, employer, or other person obtains your written consent to receive research information, then the
researchers may not use the Certificate to withhold that information.
Opt-out of all information collection by uninstalling the Application – You can stop all collection of
information by the Application easily by uninstalling the Application. You may use the standard uninstall
processes as may be available as part of your mobile device or via the mobile application marketplace or
network.
Data Retention Policy, Managing Your Information
Please note that some or all of the User Provided Data will be retained for purposes of this study.
Children
We do not use the Application to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13. If
a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their
consent, he or she should contact us at Intern_Health@med.umich.edu. We will delete such information
from our files within a reasonable time.
Security
We are concerned about safeguarding the confidentiality of your information. We provide physical,
electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect information we process and maintain. For example, we
limit access to this information to authorized employees and contractors who need to know that
information in order to operate, develop or improve our Application. Please be aware that, although we
endeavor to provide reasonable security for information we process and maintain, no security system can
prevent all potential security breaches.
Changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes
to our Privacy Policy by posting the new Privacy Policy here www.InternHealthStudy.org. You are
advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes.

Collection information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us. "Processing,” means
using cookies on a computer/hand held device or using or touching information in any way, including, but
not limited to, collecting, storing, deleting, using, combining and disclosing information, all of which
activities will take place in the United States. If you reside outside the U.S. your information will be
transferred to the U.S., and processed and stored there under U.S. privacy standards. By using the
